Painting for me is the passionate action of response, a visual invocation of the subconscious. It is a moment-to-moment synthesis of experience and inward direction. I paint with an instinctive and improvisational emphasis on color and composition to explore the abstract space between the emotional and rational self.
This awakening of the subconscious, as I see it, serves as both a starting point for and an intended outcome of my work. Working with a layered complexity of influences—my moods, past experiences, music and to a high degree, nature—and my own methodologies—building upon the language of abstraction—expressionist, lyrical, minimalist, and suprematist— I seek to channel the energized act of painting into a fresh form of discrete visual meditation.
