Our interview with Ben Freeman easily demonstrates the diverse nature the world of art influences upon an artist, Having worked with Acrylics and Water Colours, Ben departed from the paints and entered the digital realm armed with his digital camera and a computer to manipulate and create new artwork. His next ventures will take him in another new direction.
Tell me about the art you produce.I am currently producing digital art based on my digital photography. I am mostly doing a series that I call Digital Watercolors. I used to do actual watercolors, and my style was always more illustrative than traditional, and I have arrived at a method of reproducing my watercolor style, at least for the most part, in digital form.
Maxfield Parrish for his incredible lush colors and idealistic vision. Alphonse Mucha for his intricate and flowing art nouveau work, his use of colors, and once again an idealistic vision. Though it may be difficult to see their influences in my current art, there are bits of their influences here and there. When I was doing acrylics and watercolors it was much easier to see their influences. Unfortunately I have almost no samples of that work left.
Probably my experiences in the Vietnamese war. That was pretty intense, eye opening, and grim. I have a couple of images that deal with that experience.
Twenty plus years.
I am putting together a sandblast based glass engraving project, based on my twelve years of experience in the glass engraving/painting industry. I have in the past produced engraved and decorated goblets and wine glasses that were very popular.
It is always hard to determine that particular aspect as my life tends to change a lot in many respects, and all of the changes affect the possible outcomes. I hope to be able to get to a point that I can subsist on my art for the most part or better.
No exhibitions are planned at this point due to lack of finances.
