Our interview with Jace Richarde reveals an interesting individual with a love for nature and the power she has over man and his inventions. Come find out more about this emerging Canadian artist and what he brings to life on canvas.
I consider myself to be primarily a Wildlife artist, or Nature artist; although I will paint anything that moves me.
Robert Bateman was a huge influence, because here was a guy who loved nature, taught highschool, and didn't sell a painting until the age of 40, but once he did, he used the business side of things to make a living. I find the whole starving tormented artist ordeal very romantic, but I do like to eat! Modigliani was another inspiration, he was starving and tormented, so I choose to live vicariously through him.

I've never been to Africa, never have seen a Lion, or Elephant in real life (outside of a circus or zoo). But there was one time a traveling exhibit of taxidermied Animals came through Winnipeg. It was an exhibit for wildlife awareness. I was awestruck at the size, immensity, and overall beauty of the specimens. That really got me interested in painting large game. Some people might argue that my game pieces lack authenticity for that reason. I feel if you paint with your heart, it's always authentic.
I started professionally in 2000, and by 2005 was lucky enough to be painting full time. after some personal issues I took some time away, and now divide myself between art and apprenticing as a goldsmith.
I recently moved North from Winnipeg to the interlake region. There are so many beautiful landmarks and old farms. I plan to do a series of paintings incorporating these as well as the local wildlife.
I have a passion for decay. A rusty car, a rotten barn, a faltering bridge. I see it as the victory of nature over man. I would love to be known for having having that aspect in my art as my niche.
