Interview with Sarah Hanson
It's funny what prevents us from becoming an artist, and intriguing what eventually liberates the artist from within. Come read about Sarah Hanson's experience of being what she is naturally.
Tell me about the art you produce.
I paint in acylics and oils. I also reproduce my paintings as high quality giclees and some in notecards.
Who are the artists that have influenced you the most and why?
Michelangelo kept me from painting for decades because I wanted to apprentice to someone like him or not paint at all.
What life experience has influenced you the most?
I became a Christian in 1973, and in 1999 God told me unless I would paint the images He gave me in my imagination, He wouldn't give me any more. This took me from doing anything and everything artistic to the discipline of painting. I have no regrets. I love what I do.
How long have you been a professional artist?
I've been an artist all my life, but in middle age I finally rented studio space and stepped gradually from working in an office full time to painting full time.
What are your plans for your next project?
I'm about to begin several paintings "In Honor of Women" for a show in October, 2011.
What vision do you have for your future?
I would love for all the paintings that I've done to find homes around the world to bless others and to glorify God in what He has done and is doing through me.
Where are you holding your next exhibition?
My studio is in a gallery with 24 other local artists, Olde Towne Art in Portsmouth, VA. I had a One Person Show in May, and my work can be seen here any time.
