In this enigmatic contemporary painting, a young woman stands on the ice floe, facing the Adélie penguin that had found its way to her studio. An open container reveals the canvas "Rêves d'eau" hanging on the wall.
Amélie is shown from the back. She's wearing a white parka reminiscent of immaculate snow. It's unclear whether her gaze is lost to the horizon, as if she's looking for something or someone, or wondering what's going on around her, or whether her eyes are lowered to the animal, the Adélie penguin with its black-and-white plumage contrasting with the icy environment around it.
The bird seems to be observing Amélie, as if trying to understand what she's doing there. It's conceivable that the bird is a projection of Amélie's thoughts or unconscious. She would then be faced with a seemingly harmless vision, but one that could conceal dark secrets.
In the background, footsteps can be seen, the same footsteps that were visible on the studio floor. The atmosphere is both mysterious and magical.
"L'Adélie d'Amélie" is a work that invites contemplation and reverie, but also introspection. It transports us into a world where nature, both exterior and interior, remains partly inaccessible to us, where what we believe we perceive is not always reality.
This original and unique work, entirely imagined and composed by the artist, has been reworked in acrylic from his original sketch.
