This dark piece in no way reflects any of my beliefs nor does it stand for anything. I wanted to translate the stone ruins in charcoal pencil, and as usual, a space remained which needed something. What? – that wouldn’t take away from the stone. I’d probably watched a docudrama that gave me the idea. Of course, I feel nothing but sadness and empathy that people have to be so persecuted for their beliefs or race. I am a firm believer of not brushing unpleasant history under the carpet, but of looking it in the eye and acknowledging what went on. This piece – mostly charcoal pencil on paper behind glass – with framed dimensions of 16.5″x19.5″ (the image itself 14″x11″), showed in a dark exhibit I forget the exact name of in the Port Moody Arts Centre.Get in touch
