Mardi Gras 2018 fell on the Day Before Valentine's Day, so it seemed like the right time for a truly sumptuous Mardi Gras Valentine Lady!
When I was young there was a wonderful bar a half block off of Jackson Square in the French Quarter called “The Alpine, La Bohemme” which was an artist hangout. “La Vie en Rose” was on the jukebox (yes! They actually had a Jukebox!) a song by Edith Piaf, the “Little Sparrow of France.” Even today, those opening notes can take me back to an earlier time and a much younger MOUSE! It always makes me think of the Alpine in general, and Carnival Time in specific, twirling and dipping in the tiny space between the bar and the jukebox, or on a warmer night listening to the lovely French lyrics waft out through the open door into the back courtyard under huge banana leaves and a starry sky! Fritz tells me that’s where we were the first time he ever saw me. Ah! La vie en rose!
