Arts, Artists, Artwork
Paula discovered a passion for drawing and painting during a train trip across Canada in 2011. Retiring in 2015, after a 30-year career as a hydrogeologist, has freed up time for her art passion. She adores the work of Van Gogh, Tom Thomson and the group of Seven. Mainly self-taught, Paula has immersed herself into reading art books, and taking courses and workshops from established artists. She paints almost every day, mainly flowers and landscapes because that is what she loves! Paula paints with her heart, not only what she sees but what she feels, mostly with oil and a knife, and also with pastels and her fingers. She paints in her studio, often outside in her garden, and loves to paint landscapes en plein air. As her paintings show, she expresses her feelings through rich colours and textures. Her work is influenced by her childhood memories of growing up in Europe, decades of living and working in the great outdoors of southeastern and central Ontario; travels across Canada and the US; and annual visits to her second home in Europe. She has previously exhibited her work at the Window Gallery in Kingston, Ontario. In October and November 2015, in Europe, Paula held her first solo exhibition. Currently, Paula is a member of the 'Artists of Martello Alley' collective located in Kingston, Ontario, and a long established artist co-op gallery known as the 'Visual Artists of Gananoque and Area' (VAGA), located in Gananoque, Ontario. Her paintings are available for purchase at Martello Alley, Kingston Frameworks, Taj Curry House Restaurant and McMahon's House of Flowers, all located in downtown Kingston Ontario; and at Gallery VAGA in Gananoque, Ontario. To make her art accessible to everyone, Paula creates cards and prints from her paintings which are available for purchase at Martello Alley, Kingston Frameworks and numerous other retail outlets in downtown Kingston and at Galery VAGA in Gananoque. Paula's art hangs in the homes of Kingstonians and other Canadian homes, as well as homes in the US and Europe, and even Turkey, Argentina, and Australia. Paula is pleased to be part of the Arts, Artists, Artwork web-collective and to offer her work to the world-wide community.
